Introduction:

Bio-Tech hub was established in Biswanath College in the month of October 2013 sponsored by the department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, New Delhi for the promotion of Biotechnology in the North Eastern Region of India through Biotechnology Consortium India Limited (BCIL), a company promoted by the Department of Bio Technology Biotechnology has rapidly emerged as an area of activity having a marked realized as well as potential impact on virtually all domains of human welfare, ranging from food processing, protecting the environment to human health. As a result, it now plays a very important role in employment, industrial productivity, trade and economy, human health and quality of human life throughout the world.

Mission of the Hub:

Develop technologies unique to local environment in the field of health, hygiene and judicious utilization of local resources for the benefit of the region.

Establishment of Institutional Level Bio-Tech hubs (IBT) by Department of Biotechnology under special programme for North Eastern States of India

  4. Fish Genetic Resource
  5. Study n Bio-Gas
  6. Short Term training for Teachers
  7. Seminar & Workshops for both Teachers and Students
  8. Capacity building on molecular tools and techniques


Man Power:

Dr. Amrit Lal Pal, Associate Professor of Zoology of this college is acting as the Principal Investigator cum Coordinator for the Project. The Hub recruited a Junior Research Fellow in February 2014 who is conductiong reserach on her project entitled "Perspective of Tea Tissue Culture-a case study from Nilpur"

A modern Lab has been proposed and full swing research is planned in the Hub in the days to come.
