GU-CDOE – Gauhati University Centre for Distance and Online Education

The Gauhati University Centre for Distance and Online Education (GUCDOE), formerly known as Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) and Post Graduate Correspondence School (PGCS), was established in May 1998. Its primary objective is to provide the opportunity for pursuing quality higher education to a large number of students who are unable to pursue education through the conventional mode.

GUCDOE offers Post Graduate Degrees in English, Assamese, and Political Science at Biswanath College Study Centre. It aims to accommodate students who are unable to enroll in the conventional system of higher education due to factors such as limited seats in Post Graduate classes or livelihood compulsion. The center strives to impart quality education in an intellectually challenging learning environment.

GUCDOE recently completed 25 years of successful existence in May 2023 and continues its mission of spreading and providing quality education to students. From its humble beginnings with 514 students and 6 courses in 1998, GUCDOE has grown significantly, now enrolling over fifteen thousand students in several programs. The learning environment is equipped with the latest technologies to enhance the educational experience.

In addition to self-learning materials and counseling services, GUCDOE provides various learning opportunities. One such initiative is the first E-learning portal of the North-East, http://bodhidroom.net/, developed by GUCDOE. Radio Luit, the Community Radio Center, is another mode of student support services. These advancements highlight GUCDOE’s commitment to ensuring quality education to the masses.

The transformation from a Correspondence School to Gauhati University Centre for Distance and Online Education signifies not only a leap in quantity but also in quality, further solidifying the center’s dedication to providing accessible and excellent education.
