Brief introduction to the department:
Department of Economics is a prominent department of Biswanath College which was started in 1960, just with the establishment of the institution. Honours course was started in the year 1978-79. Sri Khagendra Nath Deka, Late Satish Ch Sarma, Sri Premananda Borah, Late Dr. Sadananda Hazarika and Mrs. Marami Bhattacharyya served this department successfully. At present, there are two permanent teachers (Sanctioned), one assistant Professor (Non-sanctioned), along with one Assistant Professor (Contractual). The aim and objective of the department is to impart knowledge of economic affairs of the national as well as the world economy to the students and to make them fit to stand successfully in this competitive world.
Teaching Methods adopted for effective learning: Faculty members of the dept use both online and off-line modes of teaching. Online classes are held through Zoom platform. Course materials are provided through Google classroom. Offline classes are held on regular basis. Power point presentations are used by the faculty members whenever found necessary. Student centric method of teaching like group discussion, open discussion, home assignments, student seminars are used.
